Pretty slick. I particularly like how everything has this natural imperfection to it, the wooden stairs in particular. The gutters are also a nice touch. It seems many 3d modelers these days lack these small details, and I think it's those details that really make this piece stand out. +9 (My scale doesn't make it to +10 yet)

Quite good but... there is too much light, most of the shadows are killed, and the roofs are completely flat, well textured but no bump...

Well, a bump map could fix that.

Very nice.I like your attention to detail.
+7 (as high as mine goes right now)

i agree about the roof.. but i like the lack of shadow, makes it feel like a hot dusty day.. nice job -s-

We would have liked to model all the roofs too but the scene was almost impossible to work with at 4 million polys on a Geforce 2 mx.
The scene lacks most shadows because the drawing we based it on also lacks shadows. You can look at the drawing here:

it looks great.. there is a little shadowing, what it should have.. and i can't tell the roofts are flat at all. somebody's a bit more picky than me :)

kinda gives it a bit of a gingerbread feel, I think. approval +

Yep, I don't agree with the "lack of shadows" critique, either... Not everything has to be hyper-realisitic in 3d. The lack of shadows contributes to the hot and dusty feel. Only reason that would be a problem is if you didn't want it to be hot and dusty.. I'd say it gives it more of a toony effect than hot and dusty, but hot and dusty is still a prominent feeling I get from it.

Hi, I'm the other guy who worked on this project. Thanks for the feedback.

Regarding the shadows, look at the original pinnochio painting (link at the top) anbd you will notice that there aren't any shadowsm only darker areas.

We also wanted to model the roof but our computers couldn't handle that, so we had to stick with a crappy bumpmap. Oh well :)

Well, I think you guys did an excellent job even with the restrictions you had. It has a very cartoonish feel to it. I'd really like to see a toon (or toons) in the picture. Right now it's almost eerily quiet.

Maybe you could populate it with characters and their stuff.

Good job though! (+5)

Wow... You should upgrade your Computer. It's too bad wasting your time just waiting to render. But the Quality is top mark quality.
